DMEA: Iraq receives bids for construction of 100,000 barrel per day oil refinery

Iraq has received bids from numerous foreign companies for the construction of the proposed 100,000 barrel per day (bpd) Al-Kut oil refinery in the country’s Eastern Wasit Governate, according to comments made by Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdel Ghani on April 4.

Abdel Ghani told reporters that the bids had been made in response to an offer made by the ministry to invest in the project.

“We have announced Wasit refinery as an investment opportunity for interested companies ... we have received bids from a number of companies,” he mentioned.

Al-Kut has been approved by the Iraqi government since 2016, however, it had been put on hold until recently for unknown reasons.
