GLNG: ExxonMobil optimistic of FID for Mozambique’s Rovuma LNG by end of 2025

US supermajor ExxonMobil has vowed it will continue to move forward with its long-delated Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique, with a company official stating on May 2 that it is “optimistic” it will be able to reach a positive final investment decision (FID) before the conclusion of 2025.

The company is partnering with Italian energy giant Eni to develop the electric 18mn tonnes per year (tpy) facility. ExxonMobil will develop the onshore liquefaction facilities, while Eni will lead construction of the Coral floating LNG facility as well as upstream operations offshore Area 4 in northern Mozambique.

For ExxonMobil, the verbal commitment represents a doubling-down on the project, which at times has been hanging by a thread.
