AFRELEC: Access to power rates fall in sub-Saharan Africa in past decade

The number of people without electricity in sub-Saharan Africa has increased over the last 10 years, with Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia posting the highest number of people without power access.

Figures from the World Bank out this week state that 89mn Nigerians (45% of the population) were without power, followed by DRC with 70mn (91%) and Ethiopia with 58mn (52%).
