AfrElec: South African Presidency allocates $613mn to JET-IP grant projects

The Presidency has announced that $613mn of the $821mn pledged in grants to support South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET-IP) has now been allocated to specific projects. The projects for the first two quarters of 2024 are recorded in the JET Grants Register.
Head of the Project Management Office in the Presidency Rudi Dicks said that the aim of the JET Grants Register was to provide transparency on financed activities, sources and amounts of grants, and the implementing entities, Independent Online (IOL) reported on August 7.
“As further allocations are made by the donors from the remaining pledged grant funds, these will be included in the quarterly updates to the JET Grants Register,” Dicks said.
The initial International Partners Group’s (IPG) pledge to JET-IP of $8.5bn in 2021 has now risen to $11.7bn (ZAR214.5bn).
