AsianOil: Chevron and unions reach agreement, ending strikes at Australian LNG plants
A union alliance representing workers at Australia’s Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG plants reached agreement with Chevron on a proposal by the country’s industrial arbitrator, ending a two-week strike on September 22.
The acceptance of the proposal by the industrial relations tribunal brings to an end a long-standing dispute between the workers and Chevron over pay and conditions that stretched over a six-week period and triggered LNG prices to climb by as much as 35% during August.
Combined with a similar dispute at Woodside Energy’s Group’s North West Shelf LNG facility, also located in Western Australia, as much as 7% of global supply of the super-chilled fuel was at risk of disruption, while also threatening to damage Australia’s reputation as a reliable LNG supplier.
