AsianOil: Japan issues thinly veiled threat to Australia on LNG exports

The Japanese government has made what is being seen as a thinly veiled threat to authorities in Canberra on Tokyo’s future involvement in large-scale LNG exports from Australia.

The rare spat between the long-time LNG trading partners comes after Japan requested an exemption from new net-zero emissions standards introduced by the Labour government of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese that would lead to major repercussions for the $5.8bn Santos Barossa gas site in the Timor Sea.

The site had previously been called the most carbon-intensive project ever to be developed by Australia.
