AsianOil: Singapore sees surge in ship bunkering demand in May
Monthly sales of marine fuel in Singapore, the world’s largest ship refuelling hub, spiked at a five-year high in May, official data revealed.
The increase in sales, totalling 4.52mn tonnes, marked the third consecutive month of gains, with the last higher figure recorded in January 2018. This surge in bunker sales comes amid an increase in vessel calls for bunkering, with a total of 3,631 calls in April, extending the upward trend. The director of Refinitiv Oil Research in Asia noted that container and bulker arrivals in Singapore were at their highest since 2010, with many container ships heading to China after refuelling in Singapore.
