Egypt’s SCZone signs $63.9mn deal with Jade Automotive Technology for EVs and battery manufacturing project

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) has signed a contract with Jade Automotive Technology to establish an integrated industrial complex for the production of electric vehicles (EVs), batteries and water desalination membranes, with total investments of $63.9mn, the authority said in a statement on January 28, cited by Amwal Al Ghad.

The project will be developed on an area of 70,000 square metres within the Sokhna Industrial Zone, inside the Orascom Industrial Parks developer area. It is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs, according to the statement.

The industrial complex will be implemented in three main production phases. The first phase will focus on manufacturing electric vehicles, including two-, three- and four-wheel models. It will target both domestic demand and regional markets. The second phase will involve the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, aimed at supplying Jade’s own EV output as well as external customers, supporting the localisation of clean energy technologies and reducing reliance on imports.

The third phase will be dedicated to manufacturing water purification and desalination membranes. It is expected to contribute to environmental sustainability and support Egypt’s broader water security and green economy objectives.

SCZone chairman Walid Gamal El-Din said the project aligns with the authority’s strategy to localise advanced technological industries and deepen the local manufacturing component. He added that the project represents a qualitative addition to the economic zone’s portfolio of high-value industries, including battery technology, electric mobility and sustainable industrial solutions.
