Energo: G7+ countries mobilise $4bn to support Ukraine's energy sector, says Blinken

The G7+ countries have mobilised over $4bn to bolster Ukraine’s energy sector since the beginning of the war, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, as countries work to ensure Ukraine’s energy security ahead of a challenging winter.

Speaking at the G7+ ministerial meeting in New York, Blinken highlighted the joint effort to support Ukraine’s energy needs. "We have collectively, as G7 and other partner countries, worked to mobilise resources... to ensure that they have the energy supplies that they need," he said.

Since February 2022, the G7+ countries have gathered over $4bn in energy sector aid for Ukraine, Blinken said. Of that figure, the US alone has committed $1.8bn to support Ukraine’s energy infrastructure amid continued Russian attacks.

"We know that the upcoming winter will be challenging, which is why our countries have been working together every single day to help ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to get through," Blinken noted, emphasising the urgency of preparations to maintain essential services for Ukrainian civilians.

The meeting of G7+ foreign ministers, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, particularly targeting energy infrastructure. Blinken concluded by stating that the G7+ countries remain "determined to see Ukraine’s success" and continue to stand by the Ukrainian people.
