Energo: Kyiv embarks on energy decentralisation with plans for six mini-TPPs

Energy decentralisation took a significant stride forward in Kyiv as city authorities unveiled plans for the launch of six mini-thermal power plants (TPPs) with a combined capacity of 619 MW, aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted supply to residents.

The ambitious project, spearheaded by city authorities, involves the creation of six mini-TPPs ranging in capacity from 20 MW to 324 MW, supplementing the three existing facilities. This strategic move seeks to modernise energy infrastructure by leveraging state-of-the-art gas turbines and gas piston units, situated closer to end consumers across Kyiv.

These advanced turbines offer superior efficiency compared to older boilers, with the ability to operate at partial power, adapt to fluctuating energy demands, and swiftly transition from start-up to full power in just two to five minutes. By decentralising energy production, Kyiv aims to enhance reliability and responsiveness while reducing transmission losses.
