ENERGO: Severstal to phase out thermal coal by 1Q22

Russian steel major Severstal has announced that it will stop producing thermal coal at its Vorgashorskaya mine (part of Vorkutaugol’s Resource Division) as early as 1Q22, while local power stations will switch from thermal coal to gas.

Severstal said that the switch from thermal coal to gas would “significantly reduce the company’s emissions and improve the local environment in the Vorkuta Municipal District,” improving its ESG rating.
