ENERGO: Turkey’s Calik to build thermal power plant in Uzbekistan

Turkey’s Calik Group has inked a deal to build a thermal power plant in Uzbekistan, according to business daily Dunya.

The group’s energy unit, Calik Energy, will develop two 32 MW gas tribunes. 

The value of the project, scheduled for completion by 2024, is $110mn. The power plant is to generate 516mn kWh of electricity annually. 

Calik has carried out projects across Central Asia, including in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. It also developed a natural gas combined cycle plant in Georgia.

The group’s revenues from energy operations stood at Turkish lira (TRY)5.6bn (around €500mn) last year, according to a report on the company’s website. 

Calik is active in the energy, construction, finance, textile, mining and telecoms industries. 

In the first half of 2021, the conglomerate’s revenues increased to $763mn from $665mn a year ago. Gross profit improved to $363mn from $359mn. 

Net finance costs rose to $24mn in the first half from $5mn in the same period of 2020 while the company’s H1 net income shrank to $201mn from $235mn
