ENERGO: Ukraine electricity exports to EU at year-long highs in September

Russia opened hunting season on Ukraine’s power infrastructure as winter looms with the first missile attacks in months on September 22, just as Ukraine exports a record amount of power to Europe.

Ukraine has invested $2.3bn in the restoration and defence of its energy infrastructure ahead of winter and is currently generating  more power than it needs.

In an astonishing story, Ukraine unhooked itself from Russia’s power grid and switched to the European power grid the day before Russia invaded its country. In a change that normally takes months to complete, Ukraine managed to synchronise with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) that runs the EU power supplies.
