Energo: Ukraine to import 500 MW from Europe amidst energy infrastructure challenges

Ukraine has taken a significant step towards addressing its power deficit by securing an additional 500 MW of electricity imports from Europe.

That’s according to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, who announced the deal at a government meeting on December 1 This brings the total imported electricity to 1,700 MWh, providing a crucial boost to the nation's energy resources during the winter months.

Kyiv, once a net electricity exporter to the EU, has now faced a shift in its energy landscape, grappling with a deficit in its power grid and relying on foreign imports to meet its energy needs. Much of the country’s energy infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian drone and missile attacks, leaving Ukraine unable to meet domestic demand independently.
