ENERGO: Ukrenergo attracts $1bn in loans and grants in preparation for heating season

Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s state energy company, attracted loans and grants amounting to $1bn from partners, Ukraine Business News reported on July 21.

The war-torn country is preparing for its next heating season, keeping in mind the devastating consequences of last October, when Russia began targeting energy infrastructure causing widespread blackouts and water shortages. Volodymyr Kudrytsky, the head of the board of Ukrenergo, noted the importance of restoring damaged power units and substations to ensure energy stability.

He also highlighted the need to add defence around energy infrastructure after repairs to prevent future attacks, as well as energy-efficient measures to ease the burden on the power grid. Citizens will also have to use electricity wisely.
