FSUOGM: No major energy deals from SPIEF 2024

The St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) this year saw Russian President Vladimir Putin rail against Western hegemony, stress the growing economic power of BRICS+, seen as a potential counterweight to the G7, and Russia’s resilience in the face of Western sanctions.

Notably absent from this year’s forum, however, were any major energy deals, highlighting how Russia’s energy sector remains isolated from international investment, even if the Kremlin still has political alliances and strong trade relationships with other countries.
