SapuraOMV launches key gas field off Malaysia
Malaysian oil and gas producer SapuraOMV has brought on stream its flagship Jerun gas project off the coast of Sarawak, the company announced this week.
SapuraOMV, which is being wholly acquired by France’s TotalEnergies through two separate deals worth $1.6bn, took a final investment decision (FID) in March 2021 on developing Jerun, situated in the SK408 production-sharing contract (PSA) area. The field, 160 km northwest of Bintulu, was discovered in 2015.
At peak, the Jerun platform will produce 550mn cubic feet per day (5.7bn cubic metres per year) of natural gas, along with 15,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate. This peak is anticipated to be achieved in 2030, and the field should continue producing until close to 2050. Gas will be delivered via an 80-km pipeline to the E11RB production hub, for onward shipment to the Petronas LNG complex in Bintulu.
