Sudan’s Giad Group to launch first EV production in Q1 2026

Sudan’s Giad Industrial Group is set to officially launch the country’s first electric vehicle (EV) production project in Q1 2026, Aljazeera reported on January 18.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with a Chinese company, represents Sudan’s first move into electric mobility and aligns with global shifts toward cleaner and more efficient transport solutions. It marks a milestone for Sudan’s transport and manufacturing sectors, which are currently.y suffering from damaged infrastructure due to the extended civil war.

El Fateh Awadallah, assistant CEO for vehicles and managing director of Giad Cars, said work on the EV project began in early 2025 and is now moving into the final preparation phase ahead of launch.

The project is expected to reduce reliance on conventional fuels, lower operating and maintenance costs, and provide environmentally friendly transport options suited to current economic challenges. Initial production will rely on local assembly with a 45% local content ratio, with plans to raise this to 70% for selected models within three years.

The company plans to introduce several models alongside hybrid vehicles capable of covering up to 1,100 km. Giad will also expand into electric buses and saloon cars, focusing on cost-effective models for urban use. The International Energy Agency expects that electric vehicles could reach 50% of global sales by 2030.
