Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC has signed a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and G42 to become the first energy major to deploy advanced AI agent networks across its entire production chain.

Announced by the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the deal was signed during the ADIPEC summit, as OpenAI CEo Sam Altman met with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as he attended ADIPEC.

The framework attempts to move beyond localised operational software. The strategic objective is to dismantle historic data silos, allowing automated AI assistants to optimise field development and evaluate the commercial value of crude reserves before they are extracted. However, executing this unified integration across thousands of wells and refineries will heavily test the limits of current inference models in complex industrial environments.

The initial rollout targets two primary operational bottlenecks. First, the platform will integrate decades of subsurface reservoir data with capital and cost metrics, allowing ADNOC to model entire fields simultaneously rather than optimising facilities piecemeal. Second, the system will track real-time global supply, demand, and refining margins to direct decision-making from upstream extraction to final trading.

To ensure data sovereignty, the computational architecture will run entirely on G42’s localised UAE servers under strict human supervision. An ADNOC press statement noted that the deployment will "maximise the value of every barrel" by anticipating market shifts before they occur. The agreement, which expands on a prior ChatGPT Enterprise rollout for 40,000 employees, also incorporates OpenAI’s Daybreak Blue cybersecurity protocol to shield critical energy infrastructure from digital vulnerabilities.
