AfrElec: Tlou, Zismo partner on transmission line construction for Botswana’s Lesedi project
Tlou Energy, a Botswana-based clean energy company, has signed a contract for the construction of a transmission line with Zismo Engineering, a local electrical engineering contractor, to connect the Lesedi power project to the national electricity grid.
The 100-km-long overhead power line will run from Lesedi and join the grid at the Serowe township. The 66-kV transmission line will supply up to 25 MW to the grid. The project is expected to be completed in 15 months.
The first tranche of funding for the line construction was secured from the Botswana Public Officers Pensions Fund (BPOPF). According to Tlou managing director Tony Gilby, the company is lining up additional power off-takers as well as exploring further ways of monetising Lesedi’s enormous gas reserves.
