AfrOil: BP postpones first gas at GTA

BP (UK) has postponed the start-up of natural gas production at the Greater Tortue/Ahmeyim (GTA) block, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

In a report on its second-quarter performance, BP indicated that it would not be able to launch the first phase of development at GTA before the end of 2023 as previously anticipated. “Greater Tortue/Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 [is] now expected to start up during the first quarter of 2024,” it stated, without commenting on the reasons for the delay.

US-based Kosmos Energy, BP’s partner in the project, had stated in May that it still expected Phase 1 to start in the fourth quarter of 2023 as planned even though its conversion of Bermuda-registered Golar LNG’s Gimi tanker into an FLNG vessel at Singapore’s Keppel shipyard had fallen behind schedule. The company explained that the converted tanker was now slated to depart from the yard in the third quarter of 2023 rather than at mid-year.
