AfrOil: BP’s FPSO for GTA LNG project arrives offshore Mauritania, Senegal

UK-headquartered energy major BP has announced the arrival of its floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 LNG development, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

The FPSO is an integral component of the development, BP’s biggest gas project to date. The vessel is currently being moored at its final location offshore on the maritime border of Mauritania and Senegal, BP said in a press statement on June 4.

The FPSO will be operated by BP, on behalf of the project’s partners comprising BP, Kosmos Energy (an American deepwater exploration and production (E&P) company), PETROSEN (the national oil company of Senegal) and SMH (the national oil company of Mauritania). The project will produce gas from reservoirs in deep water, approximately 120km offshore, through a subsea system.

The vessel was constructed at the Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry yard in Qidong, China, over three and a half years. Following a series of sea trials, the vessel travelled over 12,000 nautical miles to the GTA site.
