AfrOil: Dodsal Group ready to start drilling for gas onshore Tanzania

The UAE-based energy giant Dodsal Group is gearing up to start drilling for natural gas at its Ruvu Basin onshore licence area in Tanzania.

According to Dodsal Hydrocarbon (T) Ltd chairman Rajen Kilachand, the company will commence drilling when it secures the necessary licences from the Tanzanian government. “We are only waiting for a licence from the Ministry of Energy to proceed with tender announcement and commence operations,” Kilachand was quoted as saying by the Tanzanian media outlet Daily News.

Dodsal has found potential lean gas reserves of 3.1-3.9 trillion cubic feet (87.8-110.4 bcm) over an area of 4,000 square km in the Ruvu block, he added.

Dodsal Hydrocarbon (T) Ltd, a subsidiary of Dodsal Group, controls the Ruvu block. The company has partnered with state-owned Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp. (TPDC) for the project and has already invested more than $200mn in the block. Ruvu may hold more than 5 trillion cubic feet (141.6bn cubic metres) of natural gas.
