AfrOil: Kenya set to grant UNOC access to KPC network
Nairobi appears set to issue a permit to the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) to import fuel directly through the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), ending months of feuding between the neighbouring countries through legal and diplomatic channels.
“You will see UNOC getting a licence, and then we will see how to work together because usage of our pipeline is an opportunity for us,” Kenyan Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said on March 27, as quoted by The East African.
“They will employ [KPC’s] infrastructure so there will be no loss of opportunity, the transporter will remain to be KPC. We are working closely with Uganda to resolve the challenge.”
Uganda turned to a regional court in December to fight for permission to use KPC’s infrastructure.
Chirchir’s pledge came days after a case filed at the High Court in Machakos to block the licensing of UNOC was withdrawn.
