AfrOil: Nigerian LNG in focus

Two LNG projects are in focus in Nigeria this week. On the one hand, ExxonMobil (US) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC) have awarded UTM, a local infrastructure firm, a contract for the installation of a floating LNG (FLNG) unit at the Yoho oilfield. The vessel may eventually be able to produce one or two standard-size LNG cargoes per month.

On the other hand, the head of the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) consortium, which is still the West African country’s only producer of LNG, is urging the adoption of a more ambitious expansion programme. According to Tony Attah, the group’s managing director, NLNG should learn from the example of Qatar, which was quick to transform itself into the largest LNG producer in the world.
