AfrOil: TSX-listed Sintana Energy in successful oil drill in Namibia

Toronto-based oil explorer and developer Sintana Energy and its partners have successfully drilled and logged a well in Namibia that they spudded on December 2.

Sintana, Galp Energia of Portugal, the operator of the project, and the national petroleum company of Namibia (NAMCOR) are partners in petroleum exploration licence (PEL) 83, which comprises two blocks in the southern African country’s offshore Orange Basin.

Mopane-2A, Sintana noted in a release on December 31, successfully encountered hydrocarbons in two reservoirs both of which showed good quality sands, with good porosities and permeabilities, high pressures and low fluid viscosity characteristics, with minimum carbon dioxide and no hydrogen sulphide concentrations. Also, in line with all previous Mopane wells, no water contacts were found.

“The ongoing success at Mopane is emblematic of the world-class scale and quality of the complex. We look forward to further exploration and appraisal activities anticipated over the coming months to further unveil the unmatched quality of our position at the heart of Namibia’s Orange Basin.” said Robert Bose, Sintana CEO.
