AfrOil: Uganda expects TotalEnergies to begin oil production on schedule

Uganda National Oil Co. (UNOC) is optimistic that the Tilenga oilfields near Lake Albert will begin production on schedule in the first half of 2025.

“The drill kits have been put up and the drilling has started,” UNOC chief executive Proscovia Nabbanja told Reuters on the margins of an Energy Asia conference. “We are on track for first oil in H1 2025.”

Nabbanja’s comments came as a group of French and Ugandan non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other parties filed suit in Paris against TotalEnergies, seeking compensation for alleged damages stemming from the Lake Albert Development Project (LADP). In a statement, the plaintiffs said they had taken this step because TotalEnergies, as the leading investor in LADP and the operator of its two key components, the Tilenga oilfields and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), had engaged in “human rights violations.”
