AfrOil: Yinson plans pilot CCS plant for Azule FPSO offshore Angola

Singapore-based Yinson Production is building a pilot offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) plant for installation on the floating production storage and off-loading (FPSO) vessel that is being constructed for Azule Energy, an incorporated joint venture (IJV) between super-majors BP (UK) and Eni (Italy), for a project offshore Angola.

The CCS plant will be the world’s first post-combustion carbon capture unit installed onboard an FPSO It will serve as a demonstration unit in an offshore floating environment to assess technical readiness and gain operational know-how.

Azule and Yinson entered into a $5.3bn contract for the provision, operation, and maintenance of the FPSO vessel for the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development Project in late February 2023. The FPSO will feature other emissions-lowering technologies, including electrification, advanced automation and digitalisation, a combined-cycle power system, a seawater turbine generator, a hydrocarbon cargo tank blanketing scheme, and an integrated closed flare system.

Yinson says this project represents a significant milestone towards the realisation of its Zero Emissions FPSO Concept.
