AsiaElec: Energy scandals lead to dismal solar outlook in Taiwan

In the aftermath of several energy-related political scandals, solar cell and module manufacturers in Taiwan are grappling with low factory utilisation, a pressing issue that has cast a shadow over the government's solar power installation targets.

According to United Renewable Energy Co (URE) in a report carried in Taiwanese media, companies are set to achieve only half of the government's solar installation goals for the year.

This has unfolded following the involvement of local government officials in scandals associated with green energy projects, an all-too-common factor in regional energy issues. As a result, several solar initiatives have been halted amid ongoing bribery investigations across Taiwan.
