AsiaElec: India's coal sector forecasts soaring output and demand

India's coal industry is abuzz with optimism. The prevailing sentiment at the annual Coaltrans India conference in Goa is unanimous – a robust uptick in coal production, imports and demand is anticipated in the forthcoming years. Even the most conservative estimates presented at the conference foresee coal demand across all grades surging to 1.5bn tonnes by 2030, with some projections soaring as high as 1.9bn.
