AsiaElec: India’s solar capacity hits 85 GW in June, but still lags behind China

India's renewable energy sector saw a significant boost in the first quarter of this fiscal year, with 4.4 GW of new capacity added, driven predominantly by solar panels. India is the world's second biggest producer of green energy, but it is still playing catch-up with its much larger rival China, which is the global green energy champion. Solar energy contributed the most, with around 3.7 GW added, while wind power accounted for 770 MW.
