AsiaElec: Keppel of Singapore to work on energy transition projects in India
Keppel of Singapore announced on December 3 that it had signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) at the 29th Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2024 in New Delhi. These agreements aim to accelerate India’s energy transition and sustainable development.
In partnership with strategic collaborators, Keppel intends to promote innovative decarbonisation of urban infrastructure and the built environment, address growing needs in e-mobility and electronic waste management, and explore sustainable solutions for energy and cooling in industrial and commercial sectors.
Keppel plans to leverage its expertise in Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) and integrated clean energy and resource circularity to support India's net-zero goals, including initiatives such as the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP).
Key collaboration areas
Electro-mobility: Keppel is partnering with India’s JBM Group, a prominent electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, to develop initiatives in electro-mobility, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and electronic waste solutions. Their collaboration will also explore EV charging networks, electromobility hubs, and resource recovery systems to advance the electrification of India’s transport infrastructure.
Energy-as-a-service: Through collaboration with Tata Power subsidiaries, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited and Tata Power Trading Company Ltd, Keppel will deliver integrated renewable energy and cooling solutions. These efforts aim to decarbonise sectors such as data centres, industrial parks, and advanced manufacturing industries. Combining Tata Power’s renewable energy expertise with Keppel’s energy management capabilities, the partnership will utilise AI and IoT technologies to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
Built environment solutions: Keppel and Johnson Controls will implement advanced cooling systems using IoT-based monitoring and AI-driven predictive controls. These systems will enhance energy efficiency and lower operational costs. The collaboration will also focus on developing smart building solutions with real-time analytics, boosting performance, efficiency and safety standards.
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, highlighted the strong partnership between India and Singapore, which was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Singapore in September 2024. He praised these collaborations as critical steps towards advancing sustainability, green energy and economic growth.
Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, expressed enthusiasm about the partnerships with leading Indian companies, stating that Keppel is well-positioned to support India’s net-zero ambitions through impactful decarbonisation solutions.
These MoUs follow Keppel's previous sustainability initiatives in India, including securing its first CaaS contract in October 2024 and partnering with AM Green, a subsidiary of Greenko Group, to explore sustainable fuel opportunities.
