AsiaElec: MOL gets greenlight for wind-assisted LNG carrier

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines was granted approval in principle from Nippon Kaiji Kyokai on August 2 to commence a design for a membrane LNG vessel, which will feature the installation of Wind Challenger, a wind-assisted power propulsion system. The announcement marks a key milestone for the global shipping industry as the first approval ever for an LNG tanker to utilise a hard sail wind power propulsion system.
