AsiaElec: Vietnam explores expansion of rooftop solar power sales

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has initiated steps to potentially allow Vietnamese households and businesses to sell excess rooftop solar power to the national grid, marking a significant shift in the country's energy policy. Currently, under the draft proposal submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, self-produced rooftop solar energy can only be consumed onsite or used off-grid, with strict limitations on grid connectivity to prevent overloading. However, the new directive proposes a pilot study to permit the sale of surplus electricity, capped at 10% of total capacity.
