Egyptian PM inaugurates $5mn plastic recycling plant in SCZone
Egyptian PM Mostafa Madbouly opened $5mn plastic recycling plant, Green Recycle, inside the TEDA Egypt industrial development zone in Ain Sokhna, Al Mal reported on April 23.
The zone is part of the integrated Sokhna industrial area operated by the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
The development aligns with the government’s plans to expand the green industry and strengthen the use of recycled raw materials in local manufacturing to promote environmental sustainability.
The project is built on an area of 30,000 square metres and has an annual production capacity of 8,000 tonnes, while creating around 50 direct jobs.
The factory aims to maximise the use of plastic waste by recycling it into products with economic value, supporting domestic industry with high-quality recycled inputs at competitive prices. The project is also expected to help reduce environmental pollution and create employment in collection, sorting and processing activities.
Madbouly said that the government has been encouraging investment in recycling and waste management as promising sectors capable of delivering both economic and environmental returns, while helping to reduce pollution and improve the quality of life.
Walid Gamal El-Din, chairman of the SCZone, said Green Recycle represented an advanced model for the green industry in the zone and demonstrated the authority’s success in attracting investments that support the transition towards a circular economy and more efficient resource use. He added that the factory would supply recycled production inputs to a range of industries, strengthen local supply chains and reduce reliance on imported raw materials.
