Electric car imports surge in Uzbekistan

The importing of electric vehicles into Uzbekistan has grown strongly in the past two years despite the modest overall number shipped to the country. In 2018, 13 such vehicles were imported, but by 2020 the figure reached 131.

Uzbekistan’s state statistics committee also reported that the government spent $2.9mn on electric vehicles last year.

Most of the electric cars were brought in from China (92), while there were also deliveries from South Korea, Georgia, the US and Germany.

In the capital city of Tashkent, two charging stations have been installed for electric cars. This year, the government plans to install the country’s first two fast-charging systems.
