EurOil: Bulgaria seeks regasified LNG via Turkey

Bulgaria’s state gas company Bulgargaz has announced a tender for the supply of 500,000 MWh of LNG via a Turkish terminal for delivery in April 2023.

This marks the first cargo to be delivered to a Turkish LNG terminal under the agreement signed by Bulgargaz and Turkish gas transmission company BOTAS in January 2023. The 13-year deal allows Bulgargaz to access BOTAS’ gas transmission infrastructure as well as five Turkish LNG terminals, enabling the transfer of 1.5bn cubic metres of gas annually between the two countries.

In its tender procedure, which was initiated on February 23, Bulgargaz requires that the LNG supply be sourced from countries without sanctions, embargoes or trade restrictions. Among other conditions, the offer price must reference the TTF front-month April with a discount in euros per MWh indicated. The designated delivery point is a terminal in Turkey, though the buyer has the option to change to a terminal in Greece 15 days before the delivery date.

Interested parties have until February 28, 2023 to submit their applications to participate in the tender procedure. After this date, Bulgargaz will notify applicants whether they are eligible for the second stage, with a submission deadline of March 9, 2023.
