EurOil: Germany, Norway team up on renewables, other low-carbon tech

Norway and Germany have announced plans to expand their co-operation in the development of renewable energy and other low-carbon technologies, their governments announced on January 5.

The two countries referred to offshore wind power, hydrogen, battery technology and carbon capture and storage as areas they would focus on. Norway is now Europe’s biggest natural gas supplier following Russia’s loss of market share over the past year. And the country also hosts significantly offshore wind and carbon storage potential. The Norwegian government estimates that the country’s continental shelf could store up to 1,000 years of national emissions, and it is eager to provide this capacity to the rest of Europe.
