EurOil: Krk LNG to boost import capacity

Additional capacity at Croatia’s Krk LNG terminal will be brought on stream as of 2025 or 2026 following the recent conclusion of a contract with the Norwegian company, Wartsila Gas Solutions. The expanded terminal on the Adriatic island of Krk will see an increase in capacity to 6.1bn cubic metres per year, after the installation of an additional regasification module that should become operational in summer 2025.

Leading officials for LNG Croatia and Wartsila signed on April 18 a contract worth €22.97mn in Omisalj, according to which Wartsila will supply a new module that will nearly double the terminal’s regasification capacity.

Co-operation between the two companies is a continuation of the supply of the LNG Hrvatska floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) located at Krk Island. Wartsila manufactured the existing regasification system on board the vessel. As the technology is the same, environmental studies are not required, meaning the project will move ahead at a faster pace.
