EurOil: Wintershall DEA firms up estimates at two Norwegian finds

Germany’s Wintershall DEA has firmed up its estimates for resources at a duo of Norwegian offshore discoveries after new appraisal work, the company announced this week.

Bergknapp, situated 8 km from Wintershall DEA’s Maria field, is now assessed to be 44-75mn barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in size. The Are find located in close proximity is now estimated to hold 6-25mn boe, following appraisal drilling by the Transocean Norge earlier this month. The discoveries were made in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Bergknapp and Are’s recoverable resources were previously estimated at 40-84mn boe and 13-56mn boe, meaning that the appraisal led to a downgrading of the mid-case assessments. Wintershall DEA is considering both discoveries as subsea tie-backs to existing infrastructure in the area.

Bergknapp will likely be hooked up to Maria, which in turn is connected to the Kristin, Heidrun and Asgard B assets, or the Dvalin field which is also linked to the Heidrun platform.
