EurOil: Wintershall launches Norway's Dvalin field after delays

Germany's Wintershall Dea has successfully commenced operations at the Dvalin field located off the coast of Norway, overcoming delays resulting from elevated mercury levels discovered in its gas flow in early 2021.

Tiedto Equinor's Heidrun platform in the central Norwegian Sea, the Dvalin field holds an estimated 18 billion cubic metres of recoverable gas. Its commercial launch was deferred due to unexpectedly high mercury content detected in the gas during production trials, posing risks of pipeline and equipment corrosion as well as inhalation toxicity.

Wintershall has subsequently installed mercury removal units at the Nyhamna and Tjeldbergodden onshore processing facilities.
