FSUOGM: Gazprom in talks to get floating nuclear units to power Sakhalin gas fields

Russia’s state-owned Gazprom is in talks with the country's nuclear power firm Rosatom on potentially providing floating nuclear power plants (NPPs) with capacities of up to 116 MW apiece to supply energy to fields off the coast of Sakhalin Island, the Moscow-based Kommersant newspaper reported on October 2.

It is proposed that the NPPs can be used to power facilities at the Kirinskoye and Yuzhno-Kirinskoye fields owned by Gazprom. The Russian gas company confirmed to Kommersant that it is considering options for external power supply for a number of facilities at the Sakhalin fields, including NPPs.
