FSUOGM: Russia's Sibur breaks ground on new $2.1bn polypropylene plant

Russia’s largest petrochemicals producer Sibur has broken ground on a new polypropylene (PP) unit in Tobolsk in the Urals region, the company reported on August 25.

The unit at Sibur’s ZapSibNeftekhim complex is capable of producing 570,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of PP, the company said. The start of construction was marked with a ceremony attended by Russian energy minister Nikolai Shulginov.

The project will cost RUB195bn ($2.1bn), with the investment supported by an agreement on support that Sibur signed with the Russian energy ministry in January last year. It will include a 550,000-tpy propane dehydrogenation unit and a 570,000-tpy propylene polymerisation unit.
