The Russian Sakhalin-1 oil extraction project has not resolved the problems with shipments of Sokol blend oil since November 2023, Kommersant daily reports citing data from a ship tracking service, showing loaded tankers with Sakhalin oil as idle and waiting for further orders from the sellers.
As followed by bne IntelliNews, in October 2023 the Russian government had ordered the transfer of operatorship of Sakhalin-1 to a new operator also known as Sakhalin-1, which is managed by Rosneft subsidiary Sakhalinmorneftegaz-shelf.
While this has not been an option for ExxonMobil, the project’s other shareholders, Russia’s state-owned Rosneft, India’s ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) and Japanese group SODECO, have been permitted to retain their stakes.
