GLNG: Biden urged by natural gas coalition to avoid pausing LNG export approvals

US President Joe Biden has been urged by a group of natural gas producers and pipeline companies to reconsider any action to pause US LNG export approvals, Bloomberg reported on January 19.

A letter from the Partnership to Address Global Emissions (PAGE) coalition, which includes gas producer EQT and pipeline operators TC Energy, Williams Companies and Enbridge warned that such an act would negate the global climate benefits that are achieved by replacing coal use with LNG.

“US LNG is the single most powerful tool the world has to reduce global emissions by displacing coal use around the globe,” the group wrote in a letter addressed to Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

The group added in the letter that increasing exports of the super-chilled fuel would go a long way “in meeting our parallel goals of displacing global coal” while at the same time “shoring up the energy security of our allies.”
