BP’s Tangguh LNG plant has delivered the first cargo of LNG produced from the facility’s new third liquefaction unit the company announced on October 20.

The delivery to Indonesia’s state-owned power company PT PLN (Persero) marks the beginning of full commercial operations of the expanded facility, where the third liquefaction train will add 3.8mn tonnes per year (tpy) of additional production capacity of the super-chilled fuel.

The Tangguh LNG plant, located in Bintuni Bay, Papua Barat in the far east of Indonesia now boasts a total production capacity of 11.4mn tpy. The facility first began operations in 2009 and a portion of the LNG produced from Train 3 will be used for electrification in Papua Barat.
