GLNG: Condor selected to build Kazakhstan’s first LNG facility
Canadian firm Condor has been chosen by Kazakhstan to construct the nation’s first LNG plant the company announced on July 17.
The plant will be built near Aktobe in northwestern Kazakhstan. The initial phase of construction will see the facility boast a production capacity of 120,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG, which is energy-equivalent to 450,000 litres (lpd) per day of diesel.
With the construction of a modular facility, the first phase is projected to be completed in 12 to 18 months and begin processing LNG by mid-2026.
The execution of the project will be carried out in three major phases along with several sub-phases. Upon completion of the third phase, the facility is expected to produce about 600,000 tpy of the super chilled fuel, which would be enough LNG to replace 670,000 tonnes of diesel and cut carbon emissions by more than 250,000 tonnes each year.
