GLNG: ExxonMobil plans to double LNG production by 2030

ExxonMobil has ambitious plans to produce around 40mn tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG by the end of the decade, the company’s senior vice-president of LNG marketing, Andrew Barry, told Nikkei Asia on July 19.

For ExxonMobil, it means roughly doubling the amount of the super-chilled fuel it is currently producing. Speaking to Nikkei, Barry said the supermajor is optimistic on LNG’s future because of its role in fuel switching. Given that natural gas emits about half as much greenhouse gases (GHG) as other fossil fuels such as coal, prospects for LNG to serve as a bridge fuel certainly look bright.
