GLNG: Key LNG supplier Australia braces for disruption as strikes loom at three plants

Major LNG exporter Australia could see disruption to its exports in the coming weeks as workers at three LNG facilities are considering industrial action, Reuters reports.

On August 20, unions at Woodside Energy Group’s North West Shelf offshore gas platforms revealed they plan to strike as early as September 2 if their demands are not met by close of business on August 23. Australian unions are required by law to provide seven working days’ notice to firms before they can begin industrial action.

Meanwhile, the Offshore Alliance, which comprises two key unions, will hold a strike vote on August 24 for Chevron’s Wheatstone LNG plant and Gorgon LNG facility.

The strike votes bring to a culmination the long-standing disputes between the workers and the companies over pay raises, conditions and job security.
