GLNG: Petronas awaits final decision on new Argentinian LNG law

Mike Weber 6 September 2023
Malaysia’s state-run energy firm Petronas is closely watching developments in Argentina’s Congress of the country’s draft LNG law, which is aimed at giving a jolt to the nation’s LNG sector.
In September 2022, the Malaysian firm signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with YPF, Argentina’s biggest oil and gas company, to proceed with collaborating on an integrated LNG project as well as other ventures in the areas of upstream oil, clean energy, and petrochemicals.
However, before deciding on whether to pursue these plans, Petronas is taking a cautious approach and has indicated it will wait for Argentina’s Congress to complete the legislative process on the new LNG law before it moves ahead.
